“Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Belian.
Hi Julia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story really begins in the spring when I graduated from college. During my time there, I founded CU Boulder’s first fashion magazine and show, took on several internships in the fashion world, and worked at a couple of local boutiques to build up my experience. I was constantly adding to my portfolio and channeling my creative energy. But when I graduated, handed off leadership for both the show and magazine, and entered the “real world,” there was a definite shock. Suddenly, I wasn’t working in fashion or moving toward my goals every day. Instead, I found myself in a 9-to-5 job that wasn’t fashion-related, and I quickly realized I needed a new outlet to fuel my creativity and love for fashion.
That’s where the idea for Fashion Fille came from. It all started with the name. One Saturday afternoon, while brainstorming how I could expand my fashion network in Colorado, I played around with words related to fashion. With my French background and love for alliteration, I landed on “Fille,” meaning girl in French. At first, I only had a name and no clear direction. I didn’t know if it would be an Instagram page focused on fashion, a website, or a community for others who shared my passion. Then it hit me: I didn’t have to choose. Fashion Fille could be a place where my creative content could thrive, an alter-ego in the fashion community, and a space where like-minded people could come together to discuss and learn about fashion. And so, Fashion Fille was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, the journey of creating Fashion Fille has been pretty smooth. But I have to admit, one of the biggest challenges has been finding the type of creative fashion community I’ve been craving here in Denver. I know the city has its fair share of stylish, fashion-forward people—I see them all the time walking the streets—but I often find myself wishing there was a space for us to connect. It would be incredible to hang out, talk fashion, share ideas, and attend events together as a real community. There’s something special about having those face-to-face interactions with like-minded individuals, and I think Denver is ready for it. Getting everyone together in one space, where we can exchange our love for fashion, might just be my next big project…
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder and creative mind behind Fashion Fille, which started as a personal project to channel my love for fashion. Through my Substack, I share everything from fashion trends to deeper, more thoughtful conversations about style, culture, and the fashion world. What makes Fashion Fille special is that it’s not just another fashion blog—it’s a space where I mix personal stories with industry insights in a way that feels authentic and approachable. I truly want to be friends with all of my readers.
Beyond writing, Fashion Fille also lives on Instagram, where we chat about all things fashion and share style inspiration. I also run a weekly newsletter that dives into trends, fashion news, and spotlights local fashion events happening around Denver—because I believe fashion isn’t just about clothes, it’s about building a community.
I’m proud of how Fashion Fille has grown into a platform for people who are passionate about style and self-expression. What really sets me apart is that I have both hands-on experience in the fashion world and a history of creating community, like founding CU Boulder’s first fashion magazine and show. Combining that creativity with a genuine love for fashion drives everything I do with Fashion Fille.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe taking risks should be an essential part of life. If you’re not constantly challenging yourself and stepping outside your comfort zone, you’re holding yourself back from reaching your full potential. Growth comes from those moments when you push yourself into the unknown, and I think the people who find real success are the ones who view risks as opportunities, not obstacles.
For instance, when I accepted internships at both NYFW and New York Market Week, some might have considered it a risky move. I was stepping into new environments, figuring things out as I went, and had no guarantee of how things would play out. It was a leap into the unknown, but it was exactly the kind of challenge I needed to grow both personally and professionally. And honestly, if I hadn’t taken that leap, I would have missed out on some of the most unforgettable experiences of my life.
Those risks brought me opportunities I couldn’t have imagined—immersing myself in the fast-paced world of fashion, meeting incredible people, and gaining knowledge that has shaped who I am today. It reminded me that risks, even when uncertain, often lead to some of the most rewarding outcomes.”
